AUTUMN TERM COACHING Mon, 23 Aug 2010 ![]() My autumn term coaching starts again week commencing Monday 13 September and includes: Basketball - Tuesday 3.30 to 4.30pm - Long Whatton Primary School Short Tennis - Tuesday 5.00 to 6.00pm - Sutton Bonington Sports Centre Football - Wednesday 2.30 to 3.30pm - Normanton-on-Soar Primary school Football - Wednesday 5.00 to 6.00pm - Sutton Bonington Sports Centre I also propose this term to start additional coaching in basketball, fencing and boxing: Basketball - 4.00 to 5.00pm - Sutton Bonington Sports Centre Boxing - 5.00 to 6.00pm - Sutton Bonington Sports Centre Fencing - 5.00 to 6.00pm - Sutton Bonington Sports Centre I am also looking to set up some advanced football coaching in the area with Michael Cunningham - see my facebook page for Nike videos of Michael in action. The children really enjoyed meeting Michael Cunningham this morning and despite his recent operation Michael was still able to impress the kids with his skills. In addition I am looking to set up boxing and fencing coaching at Sutton Bonington - if your child is interested in either of these sports please let me know Hopefully I will see you all very soon - stay safe and enjoy the rest of your summer holiday, Mark Another Great Day Thu, 19 Aug 2010 ![]() This morning we were outside doing athletics - all the children did a throwing event, jumping event and sprint. The kids then did either a 200 metre or 400 metre race followed by a 50 metre relay around the track. At the end of the morning only 1 point seperated the top three teams - with the top 2 teams drawing for first place - both on 88 points. To decide the winning team we had a 'race-off' in the sports hall - with Lucas Chadwick's team just beating Sean McVerry's team for maximum points. In the afternoon the children were boxing - Sam Godfrey who has done most of the boxing coaching this year on my holiday courses has his first professional fight on 2 October - we wish Sam all the best. The winners today are: Younger Group: 1- Archie Eliott - 44 pts Older Group: 1- Sean McVerry - 56 pts Team: 1- Adidas On Friday Michael Cunningham will be helping coach - Michael is sponsored by Nike and if you want to see him in action check out the Nike videos on my facebook page. Tomorrow we will be doing the 'Maradona Seven' and the 'Ronaldo Speed Test' - get practising. See you tomorrow, Mark Handball Wed, 18 Aug 2010 ![]() This morning the children got the opportunity to play Handball - they were instructed by Rea Rendes who is from Hungary. Although a minority sport in England - handball is played professionally in Europe. The children all really enjoyed themselves and thought the sport was great - thanks Rea In between playing handball the kids did a 500 metre race around the grass pitches - there were some great sprint finishes between Ben Hebblethwaite and Katie Arnold and Ben Danzey and Oscar Smart - well done to all of you it was great to watch. This afternoon the children did Tae Kwon Do with Paul Knighton - Paul is a 6th Dan International Instructor with many years experience. The winners today were: Younger Group: 1 - George Pygall - 66 pts Older Group: 1 - Elle Hall - 56 pts Teams: 1 - Nike Tomorrow we will be doing athletics in the morning and boxing in the afternoon Have a great evening, Mark Tuesday - 17 August Tue, 17 Aug 2010 ![]() This morning the kids played hockey - the atmosphere was electric. Phoebe Badcock was an important member of the yellow team and showed some great hockey skills. Other good performances were from - Ben Hebblethwaite, Oscar Smart and Max Benson. Despite the best efforts of the yellow team the blue team - captain Freddie Woodyatt - were the overall winners. In the afternoon the children played basketball - if you want to see an interview with 'Tall Paul' who many of the children met last year take a look at my facebook page. This year Paul Sturgess is already back in the USA and is hoping one day to be the tallest man in history to play in the NBA. The winners today are: Younger Group: 1 - Archie Elliott/Ben Hebblethwaite - 44 pts Older group: 1 - Tom Richards - 50 pts Team 1 - Reebok - 434 pts Tomorrow we will be doing athletics and tae kwon do Have a great evening and see you in the morning, Mark Week Four Mon, 16 Aug 2010 ![]() Into the fourth week already - I cannot believe it - once again the kids are fantastic. This morning we started with 'Run around Football' - both teams were very competitive and the winning team could only be decided by a race. The yellow team picked Sean McVerry and the blue team Rory Ross - Sean just beat Rory to secure maximum points for his team. Unfortunately this afternoon Sam Godfrey could not coach - in the past Sam has been ranked third in the world for wrestling - despite Sam's absence the kids still had a great time with Ryan Mozley (see photo above) Ryan will be back to coach basketball tomorrow -in the past Ryan has played basketball for England. Those with the highest points today are: Younger Group: 1 - Isaac Wortley - 48 pts Older Group: 1 - Laura McVerry - 34 pts Team: 1 - Reebok - 364 pts See you all tomorrow, Mark Third Week Fri, 13 Aug 2010 ![]() Another great week - the kids have been fantastic. This morning the children met Michael Cunningham and practised their freestyle football skills. Despite Sam Marlow being the quickest at the 'Ronaldo Speed Test' (see video of Michael on facebook) Sam failed to score which meant Cameron Hayley became the overall winner. In the 'Maradona Seven' Sam Marlow once again showed his skill - with Daniel Edgecombe a close second. In the afternoon the children met Kelly Bishop - Kelly plays for Derby County F.C. and showed the children football is not just for boys. If your child has enjoyed this week I have places on my cause next week so please let me know. I am also hoping to start a boxing, fencing and freestyle football academy at Sutton Bonington in the Autumn Term please contact me if your child is interested in any of these sports. Ben Danzey performed well for his team both in the throwing and the jumping. Other strong performances came from - Ryan Waldren in the throwing; Daniel Edgecombe in the 400 metres and Freya Marlow in the 200 metre relay. In the aftrenoon the children tried boxing - this year Sam Godfrey has taught boxing - Sam is about to have his first pro-fight on 2nd October. There was talent for boxing shown by Charlie Woodyatt and Phoebe Badcock (Phoebe has obviously inherited her grandfather's ability) If your child enjoyed the boxing let me know as we hope to start a boxing club at Sutton Bonington on Tuesday evenings in the new term. As usual the 500 metre races around the field were fiercely competitive with Abdullah Mubarak, Cameron Hayley, James Swadling and Ben Morley all winning their races. If your child enjoyed the fencing please let me know as we hope to set up a children's fencing club at Sutton Bonington starting in the Autumn Term. In the afternoon the kids tried Tae Kwon Do with Paul Knighton - Paul is a 6th dan international instructor. The winners of the points today were: Younger Group: 1 - Aziz Alkandari - 42 pts Older group: 1 - Ben Morley - 44 pts Team: 1 - Adidas - 258 pts See you all tomorrow, Mark Basketball and Hockey Tue, 10 Aug 2010 ![]() I think I love 'Run Around Hockey' as much as the kids - the atmosphere is electric. This week hockey ended in a draw - so the points were decided with a race - with Daniel Edgecombe (Torres) just beating Rory Ross for maximum points. Despite Paul Sturgess (see photo above) having to return to the USA early this year the kids had a great time playing basketball with Ryan Mozley. In the past Ryan has played basketball for his country. Tomorrow morning the kids will be trying fencing; competiting in a 500m race around the grass pitch and in the afternoon participating in Tae Kwon Do.
