Personal Summary

I am an honest, highly driven individual who is passionate about sport. I have vision and enjoy the challenge of taking a project through to completion. I enjoy leading others and helping them to reach their potential. My ultimate aim is to be recognised for excellence through my work.

Responsibilities and Achievements

January 1997 to present: Manager, Sutton Bonington Sports Centre, University of Nottingham

• Initiated and in January 2008 opened a new £2.4 million Sports Centre at Sutton Bonington.
• Secured funding for a number of projects including: £100k for an artificial football pitch; £40k for equipment for a dance studio and gym; £20k for a bouldering wall; £4k for a sports centre foyer and £2k for a staff uniform.
• Manage a team of sports centre staff who deliver a premier service to the students, staff and local community at Sutton Bonington.
• (In addition to my work for the University I have taught part time in a local primary school and set up my own business ‘Active Coaching’. In 2008 I launched ‘Mark Waters Speed Sporting’ as a method of getting children more active this got both radio and television coverage).

September 1995 to December 1996: Secondary School Teacher in Leicester

• While pursuing a career in athletics I taught Physical Education and Science in a number of challenging inner city schools in Leicester.
• I set up a running club entering the children in a number of local league races – through this one child returned to school to compete despite having a poor record of school attendance.

September 1993 to June 1994: Worked for Stanford Hall Cooperative College

• Advised on the curriculum for a sports science course
• Initiated a proposal on the development of their sports facilities

June 1991 to September 1993: Sports Assistant at Ragdale Hall Health Hydro

• Taught aquatone and aerobics classes
• Carried out fitness tests and designed fitness programmes

Sporting Achievements and Interests

After leaving Liverpool University, in 1991, I was given the opportunity to train at Loughborough University with the International Coach Mr. George Gandy. While training with this elite group of runners I competed in a number of International races, went to America with some of the 1992 British Olympic Squad and was a member of the British Milers’ Club.

In addition to sport I enjoy spending time with my family and have a strong Christian faith.
